Instead of using chemical agents to fight off mosquitoes, be eco-friendly and use old coffee grounds! Besides being used in composting, for plant fertilization and skin exfoliation, dried up old coffee grounds of ground coffee are very beneficial as a mosquito repellent according to theUS Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Mosquitoes and other insects cannot stand the smell coming out of burning coffee grounds.

Note: Coffee grounds are the better choice but you can also use ordinary coffee as well.


  1. Collect the coffee grounds and put them on a plate covered with aluminum foil. Place them in a cool, dry place until they are completely dried.
  2. Then, place the foil with the dry coffee grounds on the plate on some flat surface-a table out in the open. Ensure that animals and children cannot access the area.
  3. Burn the grounds with a match until they start to smoke.
  4. They will slowly begin to burn and repent mosquitoes.

You can shape the grounds in length and light it at one end and it will slowly burn and repel the mosquitoes. This simple trick has a great effect.
